Is Your Website Fresh? Overview of this week's e-Newsletter This week I'm going to go over why you would want to keep your website fresh and up to date. Plus I've added a few projects we've build that show examples of what can be done to keep your website and it's content fresh.
So What Does Fresh Mean? What is meant by the saying "A website is fresh". So what in the world is a "fresh website"? A fresh website is a site in which the content (text, images, ect...) is changed/updated regularly. Basically it's not going to stay the same, there are going to be additions/changes in pages, content, products, images, ect.. on the site in an effort to give the viewer more as time goes on. A fresh website will be one that you can go back to in a day, a few days, or a week or so and view new information/content. Why Would Having Fresh Content Be Important! What makes having a fresh website important. Having fresh content on a website is actually more important than you might think. For one it's great for your ranking in search engines. Search engines love to see it when you add more content, your website looks like it's active and people are taking interest in it. Another reason is that your website viewers are going to be more likely to return to your website if they know your content is updated frequently. They'll want to read or look at your next postings or changes. Lastly, and possibly most important is that it keeps your attention on your website. This is important, as it's been shown, when you put your attention on something, that thing seems to be more likely to succeed, happen, and/or create what you intent. This last point is actually very interesting. I've seen first hand, many companies' online sales increase drastically while they have been placing/adding more attention into their website. For example prior to taking on a project for (let's call them) Company X, they had never actually had a sale from their website even though they're website has been online for a few years. After the company and I went over what changes we were going to do with their website, before any actual changes on the site was started, within a day or two they miraculously received their very first website sale. It was AMAZING! Whether it was a coincidence or not, I'll leave that up to you.
Projects That Make Your Site Fresh Some projects we have done that have help make a website fresh. There are many things that can be done to a website to make it fresh or appear to be active with recent content. One such thing is adding a blog and making regular postings to it. And another is adding a photo or picture gallery. Or even having your website content editable in some fashion and making changes now and then. Here are a few examples we've built: Update-able Photo Gallery - on this dentistry office's web page you'll notice (as you scroll down) some rows of patients pictures. To help make this website fresh these pictures can be added/edit as well each of the testimonial pages these pictures link to can be edited. Blog / Update-able Content - this is another great example of content that is update-able on a blog. Content can be added/edited at anytime by the website owner. And as you'll notice postings with pictures and videos has been added over the past month. This is a great example of keeping a website fresh.
