What's the Best Search Engine? Overview of this week's e-Newsletter With
many recent changes going on for the leading search engines I thought
it would be good to write a little on who's coming out on top. So this
week, I'll fill you in on what engine has the lead and some new cool
features each of the engines are offering. As well, I'll go over some
basics on why getting your website positioned in the search engines can
help you. So What Really... Is the Best Search Engine? Which search engine has taken the search industry lead. Well
first lets go over who the top search engines are. Since things have
changed over just this year and past year, 3 giants have emerged.
Namely, in no particlar order, MSN (now called Live Search),
Yahoo, and Google. These 3 have plugged ahead of all other engines based
off their number of searches and visits to their website per month.
So before I announce the winner lets talk a little about each.
Live Search (MSN):
This search engine's new look and function was recently released, with
only having a beta version (testing version) released in 2006. Most of
the upgrading this engine saw was primarily cosmetic, more or less a
design style change with most of the same function as the older
version. With the exception of a few things and the Live Search Maps
(similar to Google Maps).
Yahoo!:
The design and a few new functions have been added to the old Yahoo
search. You'll notice the look has changed and they now have a search
assistant that helps you when typing in a search term. The search
assistant is a useful little tool with a sleek design.
Google:
This engine has had some improvements in the quality of results
returned. As well has released a ton of gadgets and other services
recently (Google Maps, Gmail, ect..) Their search results now contain
videos, PDFs, and other documents that are not necessarily a website.
Which is good if that's what your searching for.
And the winner is:
GOOGLE - they have consistently been increasing in usage. Now realize
the winner is based off of number of searches performed in the recent
months. In April this year alone Google has lead the pack with about
62% of all the searches done on any search engine on the Internet, in
the US (ComScore). The closest behind it is Yahoo! with about 20%.
Why You Need Positioned In Search Engines! Why you should have your site positioned for target search terms. Did you know that 2.6 billion searches where done on search engines just this April!
If you think about the marketing opportunities there you'll see why its
important to get your site positioned on search engines. Many website
owners have begun tapping into this and have had their websites
optimized for better placement within these search engines. This
optimization process helps improve the positioning (or ranking) for
targeted search terms. Once a website is positioned well for a search
term, like on the first page of the search results, you'll get these
targeted "searchers" clicking onto your website looking for you, your
products or services. It's quickly becoming a top marketing strategy
for many companies.
